Sample Case Study: Compiled for VistaComm, a
South Dakota-based company focused on building
brands and strengthening business relationships
Purpose: a number of case studies were compiled
to help this client market its expertise in
strategy, content, and Web technology
WFS is a local farmer-owned
cooperative in Minnesota, serving more than
4,000 producers in southern Minnesota and
northern Iowa. Founded by farmers in 1937 as
Consumers Cooperative Oil Company of St. James,
the company has expanded to offer fertilizer,
crop chemicals, seed, livestock feed, petroleum
products, and production financing.
Challenge
WFS wanted to design a Web site that was more
than just a place to go to learn about their
company. They wanted to create a service that
customers would use everyday in their farming
operation to access production tools and current
farming information to help them to become more
profitable.
Solutions
VistaComm created a customized, customer-focused
Web site for WFS that includes content updated
on a weekly basis through the Web Newsroom
service, a distillers dried grain tool on the
feed page, and a standard deviation tool on the
agronomy page. In addition, WFS can administer
the site and make changes quickly and easily.

Results
WFS is tracking increased traffic to the new
site “One of the things that brings customers
back to the site is online account access, where
they can see their equity balances, grain
contacts, settlements, and more,” says Jo Ann
Gumpto, WFS’ communications specialist. “We’re
glad we went with VistaComm, because they
understand our customers’ needs.”
